Synopsis
"Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise. Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die

Review
The Fourth Wing was all over #BookTok and I see why! The hype of this book was well deserved and I would recommend this book to everyone. The world-building was good and well-described. I saw the world exactly how Violet (the main protagonist) did. With fantasy books, the details can get mumbled yet Yarros does a good job of keeping things clear and concise. My favorite descriptions were the ones with the dragons and the different kinds/colors that were present in the War College of Basgiath. The blues, oranges, blacks, reds, etc. lead to brilliant imagery.
Since the setting characters were so vivid and performative, it made the characters more interesting. Violet's life was already so complicated since her mother was already a General and forced Violet to become a rider. The plot thickens even more with the rules of society in this fantasy world. The rules of the land also were a intriguing factor in terms of Violet's faith. There were times when Violet had to question her morals. With the book being from her perspective, it made me wonder about these things as well.
This book have the makings of a fantasy novel, but with a tad bit more elevation. The magic, dragons, romance, and plot twists will make it feel like the book is not as long as it seems. Do not let the length of this book discourage you.
