Review
With the wonderful and thought-out characters, Wilkerson does a good job of talking about the generational effect on the characters. On top of that, the sibling interaction between the two main characters was real and authentic. Even though the siblings were estranged, I still could see the care and love that they had for each other. The complexity of the story is also really well thought out. Wilkerson transports you through the family dynamic across not only decades but continents. It isn't as simple as black and white, One minute you're on one sibling's side, and the next you're not. The decision that each one made affected the way that you saw the characters. The story and settings were also straightforward and I liked that because there were no distractions from the main plot.
One criticism I have for this book is that because of the history and many decades of characters, there were times when I was confused. For instance, the switch between the characters in the present day and the past was very frequent. The details just got a little scrambled and there were times when I didn't know or forgot the character that the section was talking about. Overall, seeing the evolution of the family was beautiful and a good journey to follow.

My rating for this book is 4/5 stars and I would recommend it.
