Synopsis

“The Unlikely Hero of Room 13B follows the life of Adam Spencer Ross, a teen with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Adam’s days are filled with fear and worry as he navigates school, friendships, home life with divorced parents, individual and group counselling, and his new acquaintance Robyn. On a minute-by-minute basis, Adam is consumed by thoughts of counting odd numbers and performing rituals that are fueled by his OCD; they inundate his daily life and make simple tasks more challenging and sometimes even impossible”.

Genre

Coming of age, young adult literature

Rating

My rating for this book is a 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked the believability of the characters and their dialogue. Another aspect of this book that I enjoyed was the awareness and accuracy of the main character, Adam, with OCD. I graduated with a minor in psychology, yet it was still so interesting to see the processes that Adam with through with his OCD. Overall, this is a very beautiful book. This is actually one of the books that I purchased at New York at Bookoff and I am very happy with this selection!
