As the Emmy nominations were announced on July 12th, many people were proud of the shows they lived in, and some were disappointed with the lack of nominations from some shows. However, they were many history-making moments announced by the Television Academy. Here’s a list of snubs, surprises, and history makers at this year's Emmy.
Snubs
No nominations for You Season Three
There were a couple of snubs that many people were shocked about. One of the first snubs that need to be brought to life is that You season three wasn’t recognized at all. The acting performances of Victoria Pedretti (Love Quinn) and Penn Badgley (Joe Goldberg) should have snagged a nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Actor for A Drama Series, respectively. Even more shocking that the show didn’t at least get a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Either way, it goes season four will be a hit, and You season three deserved all the praise that it did get.

Nika King Doesn't Get Recognized Enough
A snub that many, including me, was also confused about was the fact that Nika King (Leslie Bennett) didn’t get a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for the role of Rue’s mom in Euphoria. The most highlighted and memorable moment from Euphoria season two was the argument scene in Episode Five (“Stand Still Like A Hummingbird”). The acting from everyone in that scene made the argument seem so real and so emotional which is what makes this snub even more shocking. Hopefully, Nika King gets a nomination in the future because her acting is phenomenal.
No Acting Noms for Stranger Things
Stranger Things was a hit this year, with season four being two parts it has fans time to reel in their emotions. However, even though the show itself got an Outstanding Drama Series Nomination, none of the actors or actresses. A nod should have definitely gone to Millie Bobby Brown for Outstanding Lead Actress in A Drama Series for her role as Eleven and Sadie Sink should have snagged the nom for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Max. The way that these two young actresses conveyed hurt and desperation was really powerful to watch. To see these young stars blossom in their acting abilities should not be taken lightly. they will definitely be a force to be reckoned with later in their careers.
Surprises
Stranger Things meeting the Deadline
Whiles on the subject of Stranger Things, the timing of the show ending and the nominations at the Emmys was quite quick. Vol 2 of the season was released on July 1st and the Emmy nominations were released on July 12th. Therefore, it is very shocking that it met the deadline. Either way, it goes the show serves the praise that it is getting and hopefully it snag some awards.
This Is Us Shutout
Another shock that the internet furiously reacted to was This Is Us not getting a single nomination. Even though I did not watch This Is Us, I heard that the show was really good and the last season hit home for some people. In particular, many were upset that Mandy Moore (Rebecca Pearson) didn't get a nomination for this season, which was said to be her career-highlighting role. What do you guys think about this?
Martha Kelly For Best Guest Actress
Many people may have noticed that there were a lot of new faces in season two of Euphoria, however, Martha Kelly, who plays Laurie managed to get a nomination. She played the role of Fez's drug dealer boss, who then became Rue's 'supplier'. The fact that Martha Kelly got a nomination is shocking because she was only in the episode for what felt like five minutes. Even though some can say the same about Colman Domngo who plays Rue's sponsor (Ali), at least he was recurring. Laurie was really sporadic and after episode five she stops making an appearance. What do you think, do you think it was well deserved?
History- Makers
Quinta Brunson aka Rookie of the Year
Since the debut of ABC'S Abbot Elementary, Quinta Brunson has been getting acknowledgments left and right. Abbot Elementary has managed to score a total of seven Emmy nominations. Which makes Quinta the first black woman to be nominated three times in the comedy categories (Outstanding Writing In A Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress in A Comedy Series). Brunson's role as Janine Teagues really made waves this year. Also, we can't forget about the first-time nominees that are getting recognized for their roles: Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barabara Howard. Hopefully, Abbot Elementary can take home a few awards and make its impact even greater.
Squid Games Making Waves
Squid Games have already shattered so many records and made history. Yet, the show has once again cemented its legacy by becoming the first non-English Drama Series to be Nominated for an Emmy. Already taking home a Golden Globe and a couple of Screen Actor Guilds Awards, the success of the show continues to grow. Acting Nominations have been given to Lee Jung Jae as Seong Gi-Hun, Park Hae- Soo as Cho Sang- woo, Oh Yeong su as Oh II-am, and HoYeon Jung as Kang Sae-byeok.
Zendaya is On A Roll
After becoming the youngest recipient of the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2020 (and the second black actress to win the award), Zendya's monumental reputation still grows. After being nominated once again for her role in Euphoria (Rue Bennett), Zendaya becomes the youngest two-time lead actress nominee. Alongside Zendaya is her fellow costar Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard) who managed to get two nominations for Supporting Actress or her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus. Zendaya is also the youngest producer nominated after Euphoria managed to get a Best Drama Series nod. The show also got two nominations for their songs 'I'mTired' and 'Elliot's Song' which means Zenday got a whopping four nominations at this year's Emmy. Let's hope that she can have a repeat and get those awards.
