"New student Cady Heron gets welcomed into the top of the social food chain by an elite group of popular girls called the Plastics, ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George. However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina's ex-boyfriend, she soon finds herself caught in their crosshairs" (Google.com).
Oneof the main things that I liked about this remake is that since it was a a musical, it freshened up the genre without switching up the story. The musical aspect gave new perspective to the story. I do not think that I would have liked it if the movie was verbatim the same as the 2004 classic. I also happen to have a little soft spot for musicals and I was a complete fan of this one. Renee Rapp carried the songs with her amazing vocals. Rapp was Regina George in the broadway musical so her presence in the movie musical was needed. Additionally, Auli'l Cravalho, who played, Janice also voice Disney's Moana. There was without a doubt that Cravahlho would do a good job at Janice. It was fun watching this musical and I am glad that the lesson and themes of the movie was still sustainable twenty years later.
Some critiques that I had about the movie was that the characters felt a little surface level. Even though I had already met these characters in 2004, I still want to feel connected to them. That is one of the main mistakes with remakes get wrong. Directors, filmmakers, etc. believe that since we have read or seen these stories before then they can just show highlights. That is completely wrong. I want to be captivated with the characters the second times just as much as I was the first time. The iconicness of the film was lost in translation. Another critique that I have is, some of the songs are not memorable. Out of the thirteen songs, I can only think of three that was good off the top of my head. It made me curious to know what the Broadway musical was like. I bet it was better and more epic on Broadway. The acting was off as well, I wasn't fully convinced that the characters on the screen was The Plastics. Overall, it was a goo attempt of reviving a fandom, but at some points, it fell a little short.
