My Review for The First Omen

As a passionate fan of horror movies, I found this particular film to be one of the standout horror movies of the year. The horror movies released in 2024 have generally failed to capture my attention or generate excitement. Even this movie didn't initially pique my interest until I was invited to watch it. To my delight, it turned out to be a very well-crafted horror film. The fact that the movie received a high score on Rotten Tomatoes despite featuring a cast of relatively unknown actors, at least to me, is a testament to the strength and captivating nature of its storyline. Nell Tiger Free's portrayal of Margaret was truly exceptional. Her performance as a female horror lead captured the essence of the character with great depth and authenticity. It's a shame that horror movies don't receive more recognition at the Oscars, as Free's performance definitely deserved to be considered for an award. This prequel fits seamlessly into the "Omen" series and has garnered praise from many fans who even prefer it over the original series. While I haven't seen the rest of the series yet, I can confidently say that this prequel is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in diving into the "Omen" franchise.

I had some thoughts about the film. When the plot twist happened, I wasn't very surprised for some reason. It seemed to become more obvious in certain parts, maybe because I've seen a lot of horror films and plot twists are starting to feel more predictable to me. Despite that, I still think it's a well-crafted movie with all the essentials of a horror film. The plot, acting, and characters were solid, but the horror elements didn't fully capture my attention. Overall, I'd say it's a good movie and a decent horror film, but it didn't quite grab me in the way I hoped it would.

The film delves into the complex interplay between religious beliefs and betrayal. It prominently features the impact of religion on the characters' actions, revealing how the decisions made by influential religious figures, intended to preserve faith, ultimately resulted in more harm than good. This situation, where individuals compromise their moral and religious principles to emphasize their beliefs, adds an intriguing layer of complexity to the narrative. The film explores the consequences of betraying one's true values and the expectations of a higher power.
