The first Monday of May has passed, which means celebrities' fashion was celebrated at this year's MET Gala. The theme of the 2025 MET Gala was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, a tribute to the rich legacy of Black dandyism and its profound impact on fashion, identity, and cultural resistance. Inspired by Monica L. Miller's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasphoric Identity, which was curated by Miller and the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The dress code for the evening was Tailored For You, encouraging attendees to interpret the theme personally, resulting in a diverse array of ensembles that celebrated individuality and the art of tailoring.
Pharrell Williams, ASAP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, Anna Wintour, and Lebron James co-chaired this year's Gala. Here are some looks showcased the powerful and overdue celebration of Black style, setting a new standard for cultural relevance and inclusivity in fashion.
Zuri Hall's Modern Take on a Suit
Hall sported an off-the-shoulder gown, featuring a well-fitted bodice and a mermaid-style skirt. The creation was silhouetted as a gown, yet it is also a creative way to incorporate a suit. It is a beautiful homage to classic tailoring while also putting a modern edge on it. Everything about this was smart for this Access Hollywood correspondent. Her accessories were sleek and clean, complementing the aesthetic of the look and the theme.
CoCo Jones and her XXL Braid Shut It Down
CoCo Jones was the Gen Z gem of the 2025 MET Gala. She made a memorable statement in a custom ensemble by Indian designer Manish Malhotra. Her outfit featured a cream and white embroidered suit with a dramatic long-sleeve coat, cinched at the waist, adorned with white and cream botanical embroidery cascading down to the matching trousers. The sweeping train of the coat added to the elegance, and the absence of a shirt underneath the jacket gives it that Gen-Z boldness that was needed. The soft makeup in contrast with the long floor-length braid marked a significant moment for Jones, aligning with the Gala's celebration of Black style.
Gustav Magnar Witzøe at the 2025 Met Gala: Whimsy in White
Norweigen billionaire Gustav Witzoe made a striking impression with this avant-garde ensemble. He donned an all-white outfit featuring a sheer blazer cape hybrid that trailed behind him. The standout accessory was the transparent briefcase filled with rose petals. The gold jewelry and the cowboy hat added the whimsicalness to the look.
Diana Ross Showing the Young Ones How It Is Done
This look needs no description or introduction. It seems like white was the color of the night, but Miss Ross wore it the best. She made a breathtaking appearance that her designer son Evan Ross and Nigerian designer Ugo Mozie created. The shimmering body-hugging gown was paired with an 18-foot white and feathered train. The train intricately had the names of her children and grandchildren embroidered into it, making it a heartfelt tribute to her family. The dramatic and timeless silhouette made her outshine the younger attendees. Her appearance made such an impact that many people suggested that the 2026 Gala should be dedicated to her.
Ugbad Abdi Crystal Reverie
Abdi delivered a show-stopping look that paid homage to fashion editor Andre Leon Talley. The Michael Kors crystallized ensemble signified the model as a fashion trailblazer. The way the different elements of fur and crystal tailored her shape, creating an androgynous look for her, was smartly done. The look was so good, effective, and, most importantly, on theme.
Sarah Snook Sophistication
The beauty and elegance that was possessed by Snook at this year's gala should go unnoticed. The Emmy-winning and recently Tony-nominated actress looked divine as she graced us in this silk black suit with a red-lined cape. It was simple, yet effective. The fit her like a glove and did an excellent job of showing people her sense of style that she has really yet to show off before.
Laura Harrier's Ancestral Elegance
Inspired by family photographs of her father and grandfather in their Sunday's best, Harrier ensured that the black dandyism was present throughout her look. Her look was a Zac Posen for Gap Studios creation-- a raw denim vest and ultra-wide-leg satin trousers. The look celebrated her blackness with a triple-layer pearl necklace, which merged it with high fashion.
A Regal Tribute In Maroon
Brian Tyree Henry wowed in a rich maroon suit with a dramatic brocade cape by Nigerian designer Orange Culture. The Atlanta actor put some finesse in his look. The gloves and other jewelry refined the details in the look. Another look inspired by Andre Leon Talley, as it blends bold color with elegant tailoring. Henry has been one of the underrated figures who attends the Gala, hopefully, this look will launch him into someone who should be looked at in the future.
Damson Idris: A High-Speed Fashion Reveal
To promote his new film, F1, Idris's look included a dramatic entrance. Entering the event in a custom white racing suit by Tommy Hilfiger. He then revealed a red tuxedo beneath and accessories from his own DIDRIS. The creation was a perfect blend of classic American tailoring with modernist mannerisms. If there was a time to put on a reveal, it would be the MET Gala. The white suit to the red suit gave the eyes a nice surprise and pop of color. This is such a good way to market a film while also showing off Idris's fashion sense.
A Symphony of Style: Andre 3000
One of the most impressive and sensible looks of the night was Andre 3000. The centerpiece of the look is a 30-pound, three-quarter-scale replica of a baby grand piano that was carried on his back. The navy blue midnight jumpsuit by Burberry x Benji Bixby beautifully contrasted with the red hat. The look was performative and one theme for the type of musician Andre 3000 is, seeing as he started to turn to the jazz genre as a musical artist. The ensemble was styled by the famous Law Roach, who understood the layers of commentary of labor, artistry, and black identity. It was a memorable look and an unforgettable statement.
Nicki Minaj’s Pinstripe Poetry
Minaj transformed the carpet into her runway, stepping out in a Thom Browne creation that masterfully fused menswear's sharp lines with the drama of haute couture. Styled by Law Roach, the look was inspired by the 'quaintrelle', the female counterpart to the dandy, emphasizing elegance and individuality. The white, black, and gold color scheme is so gorgeous on her skin. The flowers give her the dynamic look that upholds her reputation and look as a musical artist.
Riri's Regal Rebellion
Rihanna stole the spotlight as she walked the carpet in a creation by Marc Jacobs. Once again making a fashionably late entrance, Rihanna has given us the definition of the phrase with this look. A cropped wool jacket over a sculpted bustier. Topped in a polka-dot cravat and a dramatic Stephen Jones hat. The look is on themes, with Ri also debuting her third pregnancy with her iconic flair. If there is one thing Rihanna is going to do is reinforce her style icon status and continually redefine red or blue carpet moments.
Best Look of the Night: Teyana Taylor
Teyana Taylor reigned supreme in a Marc Jacobs masterpiece-- an enchanting burgundy pinstripe zoot suit reimagined with a sweeping, rose-adorned cape. Crafted by Ruth E. Carter, the ensemble was a poetic ode to Harlem's golden age. Satin roses bloomed from crystallized vines cascading down her back. The feathered fedora, as well as the ruby cane, topped off the look amazingly. David Yuman jewelry is completed the moment with the words "Harlme Rose" whispered around the cape's edge. Taylor didn't just walk the red carpet--she danced through history, embodying the themes with regal defiance.
